CORRECTION: In this morning's press release, we mistakenly indicated that the concern originated from a parent. In fact, it was brought to the Administration's attention by two students. Additionally, we referred to the Emergency Response related to yesterday's incident at Northern Lakes School as a Shelter in Place, when it should have been described as a Privacy in Place. We sincerely apologize for these mistakes.
Updated Press Release: Northern Lakes School Incident
On November 20, administration at Northern Lakes School received information from two concerned students about a potential threat to the school.
Student and staff safety are our number one priority. We take all possible threats – real or perceived – seriously. School administration immediately began an investigation that involved the Ontario Provincial Police, as per the schools protocol.
A Privacy in Place was initiated, meaning that the hallways were cleared and all students remained in classrooms, while a search was conducted. A student was removed from the school by the police and has since been charged.
The name of the youth will not be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the OPP are requesting anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 1-888-310-1122. If you want to remain anonymous you can provide information through Crime Stoppers at www.tipshelp.com.
