New Student Trustees
Chair Pierroz and Director Campbell welcomed new student trustees, Branwyn Minor and Addison Brown, emphasizing the importance of their roles in representing student voices within the board.
Employee Recognition:
Congratulations to the following on their retirement: Stephen Danielson, IT Manager and Allan McManaman, Superintendent of Education. We thank them both for their significant accomplishments in our school board.
Recognition of Excellence:
Family Literacy Night at J.W. Walker School
Principal Sonja Aherns and Vice-Principal Kim Kirk led a presentation on J.W. Walker School’s Family Literacy Night, highlighting creative strategies to involve families in literacy activities. The event featured various engaging activities, including book bingo, make-and-take pizza kits, and a spaghetti dinner. It brought together school staff, families, and community partners. Activities were tailored for both junior and primary students. Parents shared their appreciation for learning new, interactive methods to support their children's literacy development and expressed gratitude for the take-home items that they could enjoy with their families.

System-Program/Curriculum Success
Summer Learning – Superintendents of Education Brad Oster and Beth Fairfield highlighted the success of various initiatives. Superintendent Oster provided an update on the summer learning programs, where the curriculum focused on reading, writing and math in the morning, and complemented by hands on STEM and experiential activities in the afternoons which were tailored to individual learning need and collaborative teachings. The School Readiness program was expanded to seven schools and targeted kindergarten students, helping them develop skills for the coming school year.
Superintendent Fairfield shared the secondary school’s summer programming which included Summer Coop, where 29 students participated in a variety of different job opportunities and achieved 44 credits. Credit recovery saw a lot of Grade 9 and 10 students achieve credits to stay on track for graduation. And the Reach Ahead program for most at-risk Grade 8 students, with the majority of them had poor attendance, and 9 out of 11 students achieved their Reach Ahead credits.
