Students at Skills Ontario Competition The 2024 Skills Ontario Competition took place on May 6th and 7th at the Toronto Congress Centre, providing an exclusive opportunity for talented students in the province to demonstrate their skills.
This competition fosters skill, self-assurance, and leadership through practical projects that meet industry benchmarks. Additionally, it creates networking opportunities with educators, experts, and future employers.

Rainy River District School Board had a strong presence at the 2024 Skills Ontario Competition, with six students competing from all three secondary schools at the event held at the Toronto Congress Centre.
These talented students showcased their skills and represented their respective fields:
Carpentry: Beau Fournier (NLS)
Culinary: Aiden Gouliquer (NLS), Rylan Strom (NLS), Tori Wood (RRHS)
Precision Machining: Julia Guertin (FFHS)
Welding: Trinity Richards (FFHS)

Alongside the competition, students were given the opportunity to check out the impressive trades show, which showcased presentations, booths, and exhibitions from colleges, trade schools, unions, businesses, organizations, and industry partners throughout the province.
It’s been a busy time for our skilled students as regional competitions were also recently held in April in Thunder Bay for Carpentry, Culinary, and Welding students.

We are extremely grateful to the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program at RRDSB for making it possible for our students to participate. We would also like to express our appreciation to the School College Work Initiative (SCWI) and Specialist High Skills Majors program (SHSM) for their support.
A big shout out goes to all the teachers, coaches and local trades professionals who generously shared their time and expertise to prepare our students.
