Description: Professor Tracy Vaillancourt holds the Canada Research Chair in School-Based Mental Health and Violence Prevention. She is a full professor in the Faculty of Education, a cross-appointed full professor in Counselling Psychology and the School of Psychology, and a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance (CIGI). Professor Vaillancourt's research examines the links between bullying and mental health, with a particular focus on social neuroscience.

Description: School administrators will lead staff in Student Achievement Planning sessions that concentrate on the three core areas of RRDSB’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan: Mental Health / Well-Being and Engagement, Student Achievement, and Pathways / Transitions. Educators working with students in RRDSB schools will also receive student safety training, as mandated by PPM 161, through a series of modules covering anaphylaxis, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes.

Topic: Literacy (Elementary Teachers) (AM and PM)

Description: The Literacy Lead will continue to support all staff in understanding and implementing the Literacy Curriculum that was introduced in the 2023-24 school year. A focus on Tier One instruction, including evidence based assessments and strategies will be shared. Further training and support will also be provided for tier two intervention, including both small group and individualized instruction.
Topic: Cell Phones and Vaping – PPM 128 (Secondary Teachers) (AM)

Description: Schools will target the recent changes in student use of personal mobile devices and the role of educators in supporting these new policies. The updated RRDSB Code of Conduct, complete with Appendices A and B supporting the Ministry of Education’s new legislation, will also be reviewed.
Topic: Curriculum Implementation with a Focus on Literacy and Stem (Secondary Teachers)(PM)

Description: School Support Services Staff will facilitate the introduction of the new Grade 9 de-streamed Geography course, Grade 9 and 10 Technology courses, the Grades 9-10 Business Studies curriculum, and updates on Mental Health literacy within the Grade 10 Career Studies course.
