Sturgeon Creek School earned the "Recognition of Excellence" Award at the February Board meeting for their upcoming production of “Mary Poppins,” which will be staged this April. Students, Jayna Walter and Denae Mose, offered a sneak peek to the Board, performing a short number from the musical.

Students across the Board, including this class at JWS, have been learning about Orange Shirt Day and residential schools by making orange attachment hearts filled with sage. Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. It is held on Sept. 30, but most schools in our Board are being asked to wear orange on Oct. 1.

Lews resigns
Longtime trustee resigns

Michael Lewis, longtime trustee for Atikokan and surrounding area, accepted a farewell gift from Director of Education Heather Campbell, on behalf of the Rainy River District School Board, during its regular monthly meeting last Tuesday evening. The board was sad to see him go but happy to have been able to serve alongside him. His resignation comes due to family obligations.
