Parent involvement leads to more student success. Students have a greater chance of being successful at school if their parents are actively involved in their education and their school. How can you get more involved with your child’s education? There are all kinds of ways you can help support your child’s learning.
At home you can do simple things like:
- read with your child
- let your child see you read, so you are a reading role model
- create a quiet space for your child to do homework.
You can go out to:
- your local library and find books for children of all ages
- a Parenting and Family Literacy Centre to find activities for preschool children from babies to 6 year olds.
You can get involved by:
- volunteering to help at a school event, a class trip or with a school group
- becoming a member of your school council
- becoming a parent representative on a Parent Involvement Committee through your school board.
